I think Flieger is still right ...I take your point! I think Flieger is still right that it is not an accident that Tolkien has Bilbo thrust Sting into the beam--why not just hand it to Frodo? That is what Jackson has Elrond do in the movie--hand the sword to Aragorn--which is not what happens in the book. How the hero gets his sword matters, clearly!
